| The
Canusa Triathlon Championship
The Canusa Triathlon Championship
is open to any athlete wishing to compete in a triathlon
consisting of a 2.4 mile swim, followed by a 112 mile
bike and then a marathon run of 26.2 miles.
The Bigfoot Triathlon is the host
event for the championship taking place over the weeklong
Bigfoot Triathlon Festival. Included in the Festival
is a Half Iron event, Sprint and Olympic Distance Triathlons
and a "My First Triathlon" event exclusive
to first time competitors.
Athletes can qualify for the Championship one of two
ways; either by time or by event placing.
If you have not met this standard you can still race in the open recreational
category, and if you beat any of these times prior to the event you will be bumped
up as a "Qualified Athlete." Everyone still races together with the same start time
of 7:00 AM the only difference is that Qualified Athletes are the favorite to win
their division. They still have to prove themselves on race day.
The media may pay a little more attention to these athletes which is good for
attaining sponsorships, however the post race coverage will be based soley on
performance.
Time Qualification
Athletes who finish events in under
the prescribed time for each specific distance will
qualify. Times are based on their respective age categories
and race distances.
Event Placing Qualification
Athletes who place in their respective age category
will qualify for competition. Age category placing will
vary depending on the distance of event and number of
competitors.
Recreational Competition
Space is made available to those athletes who have
not qualified but wish to enter for recreational competition.
Race Day
Regardless of your qualifying position all athletes
start at the same time and are competing for the same
awards.
