Saturday June 25th, 2005
Start Time: 9:00am
Kits Beach and Pool
Vancouver, British Columbia
Welcome to Almost My First Triathlon, a fun triathlon event exclusively for first timers. Avoid the intimidation factor as you and hundreds of your friends take the plunge for the first time.
Spawned from the success of My First Triathlon. Almost My First Triathlon is just another step to encourage you to compete in My First Triathlon. The goal of Almost My First Triathlon is to introduce you to the elements of a triathlon with hundreds of your friends. You will have the option of swimming in the ocean along the shore at Kits Beach or swim in Kits pool for one lap, from one end to the other and then back again, that’s it. You will then hop on your bike and go for a 10 km bike ride out towards Jericho Beach and then back to Kits Beach for the final 3 km Fun Run.
Almost My First Triathlon gives athletes who are planning on doing My First Triathlon a little appetizer for the real thing. Getting used to running after biking is fun, and most enjoyable for the “Spectathletes” as you wobble around like you have lead weights strapped to your thighs. Almost My First Triathlon gives you the opportunity to meet the other people who will be competing at coming up My First Triathlon events.
Rivalries may develop and may even run into old friends where you will both look at each other and say “You’re doing this?” “No way!” One of our goals is to introduce new people to the sport of triathlon showing them that it is fun just training, enjoying the scenery and not worrying about how fast they are going. Hosts for My First Triathlon will be on hand to help with the event and to answer any questions you may have about coming up My First Triathlons. Once you graduate you will be captured by the allure of pushing yourself to the limits.
Training for Almost My First Triathlon is simple, it just takes a little time commitment. Jump in the pool, swim a few laps, then jump on your bike, ride a couple of miles and then go for a short run afterwards. If you feel tired Stop. Go have a beer, go to work, watch TV, or phone a friend. If you feel good, keep going and keep increasing the distances week by week. If you get too busy with work, and take a few days or a week off training, so what. The key is to slowly incorporate training into your lifestyle. Remember triathlons are fun! If you follow a regular training schedule, you will just naturally get faster. Our simple diet and training program. Eat less food and exercise three times a week. Have fun training and we’ll see you at Almost My First Triathlon...
